These critical parts are made from solid titanium and require multi-stage operations. The work was carried out at Smiths Aerospace and required programs for a Tosnuc Horizontal machining Centre with Orbital boring capabilities. The project required part programs to be processed and followed through during prove-out. Post processor modifications to customer and machine tool requirements were necessary.
The contract was for the supply of part programs, the design
and modelling of fixtures as well as overall support of the
EdgeCAM installation. There were a total of 50 components involved
and project was spread over nine months. Full prove-out
support was provided onsite.
Oxford Engineering required someone to temporarily take the place of a senior production engineer. CAMtask provided weekly onsite support in the production of part programs, tooling specs, work layouts and all the other duties carried out by a production engineer. Oxford Engineering has a range of 3 and 4 axis machines and turning centres, programs were supplied for all types.
HPC Engineering contracted CAMtask to assist with the 1st off production of some Aston Martin parts. These parts were for the interior of the DB9 and therefore required a disciplined approach to form and finish. The full range of EdgeCAM cycles were used to achieve the high standards required.
At the DML in Devonport we were asked to provide programs and a post processor solution that would enable the machining of critical components to be used on sub marines. The post processor was required to output code for a Heidenhain control on a Huron machining centre.
